Orange County 4H Jr Stockmen Take First Place

Orange County won top place in the Commonwealth for Junior team, the top individual prize, and had 3 individuals in the top 20. We had 2 4-person Junior teams. Kaci has had them drilling with flash cards and practice tests weekly since school began. They judged lambs, hogs, and cattle, and probably more I don't know about (parents not allowed around during competition). It was a 3 hour competition. The winning team has a few years' experience and with this "bench strength", Stella and the other first-timers can look forward to continuing the winning streak.
Grymes students participating were John Michael Knight, Gracie Wilbanks, and Stella Bradford. John Michael placed in the top 20 and was on the winning Junior team. The top individual Junior Stockman contestant in the Commonwealth was Blake Hopkins, son of Extension Agent Steve Hopkins.
Kaci and all the 4H staff and volunteers do a wonderful job with our children. They set high expectations, help everyone have alot of fun, and build good sportsmanship, teamwork and manners, not to mention technical skills in agriculture.
