"Antiques with an Attitude"

If Patrick Newell, owner of Lionshare, boasts about opening an antique store that has an attitude he means it has an attitude of enthusiasm and fun because both he and the recently opened store fit right in to our downtown.

Patrick's history is really one of family ties and local heritage: as a boy he spent his summers with his grandmother who lived here, his mother was born here, his parents married here, he was baptized here and basically records a 150 year history in the area. His experience in the antique business goes back to a very successful antique mall he operated in Old Town Alexandria for six years until marriage and the ensuing family responsibilities resulted in a seven year career in the real estate industry. After relocating to Warrenton, Patrick starting selling vintage cars. Serious vintage cars with customers throughout America and countries including Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, British Isles. His interest in classic cars continues today with a stable clientele from across the globe.

Lionshare; from English tradition combining the county seal of Orange. The shop has a clean, orderly display of English, Early American, and Primitive pieces. There is unique artwork, oil paintings, collectables, furniture, lamps and other stately pieces. It also used to have a very cool yellow pig pitcher which I understand is now in possession of Orange's only pig-collecting bank president.

Patrick explained that, "The business is a three-generation effort with my dad, myself and my 10-year old son, Jack." (Jack, I understand has a penchant for vintage sports memorabilia and will have his own special section in the shop.) "We're hoping to include something here for everybody especially a younger, but learned, crowd. We have items priced anywhere in the $3 to $5,000 price range."

As far as his intentions for Orange, Patrick shared the following, "Business is here more than you'd think, last Sunday a friend was helping me unload furniture. So while we were here, we opened from about 12:30 to 3. Seven people stopped in in that short time, all were tourists from out of town and I took in $800 in sales. We were the only place opened in town."

We can only hope that Lionshare starts a trend. Patrick, welcome to Orange and thank you for your new store.
