Focus on Business: Piedmont Books
By Jeff Curtis, Director Orange Downtown Alliance | Posted: Sunday, September 13, 2009
If for no other reason than to say hi and pet Alley, the big calico cat in the window, a visit to our newest downtown establishment will be a treat. As you can tell from the previous two articles, I am a book store enthusiast. All those shelves and stacks of stories, adventures and undiscovered wisdom. The people and places and things and ideas and geniuse that a good book reveals. I love good books and talented authors. I like recipe books especially.
And so when I saw the desks and shelves and cartons of books being unloaded from the back of a van, several days in a row, I was just thrilled to be a part of the unpacking, even it it was like, 95 degrees out with enough humidity to make a palm tree sweat. Welcome Piedmont Books. Owner Ralph Munroe is a veteran book monger previously having operated a book store in the Orange Colonial Square Shopping Center called, The Book Shop, for 3 years and 2 years prior in the present location of Purcell's Custom Firearms.
When you visit Piedmont Books you're visiting a first-rate book store: clean, organized, and full of cool books: new books, new authors, old authors, travel guides, history books, novels and a wonderful selection of childrens books. If they don't have it I was assured that they can get it for you and usually in less than a week.
The book store is located right on West Main next to Lacey's Florist and daily operated by sisters Wendy Moubray and Christy Marks and Orange native Michelle Utz. All three ladies very knowledgeable about their stock and able to offer immediate help.
